We have an exciting lineup of daytime and evening events to make this week full of unique entertainment. Consider this page a sneak preview into what should be a fantastic week-long event:
- From Monday through Friday of that week, dynamic speakers will excite and stimulate the mind.
World class scientists will present, like UMaine’s Bob Steneck who will unveil new insight into the
mysteries of lobsters.
-
In addition, come thrill to the vivid imagery of National Geographic underwater photographer Bill
Curtsinger as he takes us on a fascinating journey beneath the sea.
- Be sure to experience the passion that ocean advocates Joan Benoit-Samuelson and Casco Baykeeper
Joe Payne have for protecting our ocean.
- Sit back, be moved and inspired by the magical, theatrical performance of gifted actress Kaiulani Lee,
as she brings to life the heartfelt struggle of environmentalist Rachael Carson.
- You won’t want to miss noted author and former swordfish boat captain Linda Greenlaw, who will offer
her own unique free flowing perspectives on fishing and maritime life.
- Join with us as we celebrate the sounds of the sea as recording artists Schooner Fare regale us with
some of the finest ocean songs ever written.
- Lastly, treat yourself to some genuine rollicking laughter as “NMEA 2007” draws to a close with the
brilliant downeast humor of Tim Sample.
- The venue for these special events is the brand new Abromson Center on the Portland campus of the
University of Southern Maine. The Abromson Center will also host numerous workshops and idea-provoking
sessions centered around the world of water.
- Indoor events are only part of the Conference. A wide array of exciting outdoor field trips will take
participants in, on, and around the water.
- There will also be great food, featuring the freshest fruits and vegetables and seafood specialties of all
kinds. Of course downeast dining is never complete without an authentic oceanside Lobsterbake!
- Evening is a time for play and there will be a particularly festive atmosphere on Thursday night of the
conference as NMEA will put on a wonderful party, which will include a lively laughter-filled auction.
Housing will be available at both the Eastland Park Hotel and on the seaside campus of Southern Maine
Community College.
Over 400 participants are expected for what will be a fantastic week. Please consider this your personal invitation to plan now to join us. Be sure to block off July 23 -27 2007 well in advance. You won’t want to miss this!
