Frequently asked questions

Here are the most common questions we're receiving by email. (Updated May 31) The below information is as things stand now. We'll keep this page updated as things change. Please let us know any other questions you may have, and we'll get right back to you! Email us at Downeast2007@gommea.org

How do I apply to present?
The Call for Papers/Presenter application deadline has passed. Presenters have been notified.

What is the scehdule of presenters?
You can view the tentative schedule for presenters and posters from the links either on the home page or the Program page.

How much will registration cost?
Registration for the full week is $425. One day registration is available for $150 for Tuesday or Friday, $175 for Wednesday. With the exception of individual Field Trips, and breakfast on Thursday, all food and events are included in your one registration fee. You should register as soon as possible to be sure to get your first choice of field trips, and to get into some of the limited-capacity events.

How do I register?
First, decide what field trip you want to choose, and review the schedule for descriptions of the special events. (Some are limited capacity, so you'll want to sign up early to be sure to get in to everything.) Then click the link for the online form. Fill the form out online, if you want to pay by credit card. If you want to pay by check, money order, or purchase order, print out the form and mail everything to the address on the form.

What are the lodging options?
The primary lodging will be at the Eastland Park Hotel for $139/night per room, up to double occupancy, plus 7% tax. Parking is included. Additional people in the room cost $15/person/night.

See other great lodging options on the Lodging page.

We encourage everyone to make their lodging reservations early to get their first choice of our several options.

What are the transportation options?
We will provide transportation from the airport to the Eastland Park hotel or the dorms, if you fly into Portland during the day on Monday, July 23. During the conference, we'll have shuttles between the dormitory, the Eastland Park, and the conference venues, so a rental car will be unnecessary to participate in the conference. Driving around the Portland area is quite easy and pleasant, however, so if you like to explore on your own, you may wish to rent a car.

If you fly into the Portland Jetport on Monday, July 23 (Airport code: PWM), let us know when you're arriving, and we will pick you up at the airport. Returning to the airport on departure will be a quick cab ride.

We'll provide maps of the area and 'must-see' suggestions for areas to explore. (Hint: LLBean shopping will be tops on the list, and remember, they're open 24 hours/365 days!)

Are meals included in the registration?
We will provide continental breakfast and lunch daily. Evening meals which are part of special events are also included within the overall conference fee. Thursday breakfast is on your own. Field trips will include lunch. If you do not go on a field trip, lunch will be on your own.

What field trips are planned?
Check out the Field Trips page before you register, as you will be asked for your choice at that time. We will provide plenty of other suggestions for fun activities, including for families, for before or after the conference.

What travel options are there?
We don't have a conference airline, but we suggest checking fares with Jet Blue or AirTran- they fly directly into Portland and have great rates. Manchester, New Hampshire and Boston airports may offer lower airfares, but transportation to Portland will run you $32 - $50, or more.
